Ciaran Mc Carthy

A plant scientist from an early age, Mr. McCarthy has been passionate about plant propagation, agriculture, and horticulture since early childhood while growing up around massive greenhouses kept warm using geothermal heat. This interest in the plant sciences was cemented into a career path during his time studying botany at Humboldt State University, known for being one of the few schools in the country to offer a BS in botany. Upon graduation, Ciaran gained valuable experience in agronomy and nursery research while working for Driscoll’s Berries in the nursery division, and has applied his many technical skills to bringing professionalism and a scientific understanding of botanical concepts to the cannabis industry.

Developing Sonoma Lab Works, an analytical testing lab that was originally a part of CannaCraft’s vertically integrated business model is without a doubt Ciaran’s most challenging and rewarding business experience. A founding member of the team, Ciaran was involved in product development, QA/QC and formulation for production of a wide range of cannabis products (vaporizer cartridges, gel capsules, infused products, edibles, etc), and helping craft regulations in the complex landscape that is California’s emerging cannabis industry.

Ciaran’s professional goal is to be positioned at the vanguard of agricultural technology in order to continuously improve upon the tools and techniques that will drive how we farm into the future. His interest in tissue culture was developed while attending HSU, and this fascination was further driven towards a entrepreneurship while participating in a business start-up competition for students at HSU and the local community college.
